There continues to be reports of catastrophic storm surge, hurricane force winds, and flash flooding occurring across Southeast Louisiana. Lafourche Parish is reporting that every road there is currently impassable. Ida also maintained sustained Category 4 winds for 6 hours after making landfall and trekking west of New Orleans. The city of New Orleans is completely without power at the moment along with 700,000 across the state of Louisiana. The majority of the flooding rainfall will occur tonight to tomorrow. Ida is currently a category 3 as it makes its way towards Baton Rouge and starting a slow turn towards the east. Major Hurricane Ida made landfall near Port Fourchon, Louisiana as a Category 4 Hurricane. Another Major Hurricane has begun impacting Southeast Louisiana. The lower Mississippi Valley is expected to get heavy rainfall this evening, while 4 to 8 inches of rain is expected in central Mississippi, with isolated amounts up to 12 inches, according to the NHC.Northeast Impact – Throughout Queens and Staten Island, New York, our assessment team found localized pockets of basement and first floor flooding with the greatest needs appearing to be housing and financial assistance. Ida is forecast to remain a hurricane through late Sunday night, and weaken to a tropical storm Monday as it moves into Mississippi. Hurricane-force winds extend 45 miles from the center and tropical storm-force winds extend 150 miles from the center. The hurricane has sustained winds of 120 mph, and is now a Category 3 storm. National Weather Service update that "rapid weakening is expected during the next day or so."Īs of the 7 p.m. Central advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Ida was about 25 miles west-southwest of New Orleans.
